Pope Adrian IV asked King Henry II to subject Ireland to English rule. The King requested Hugh de Lacy accompany him in the Invasion. Baron Hugh de  Lacy became the 1st Viceroy of Ireland. The de Lacy name derives from a noble medieval Norman family whose origins further back in history can be found in the ​de Lacy Origins chronicles.Once translated from Norse, Latin and Norman/French, the English version since 1066 is de Lacy.
